So on campus today a group of pro-lifers were having a demonstration. I am a reasonable enough person to know that they have ever right to do so with proper permission from the school. Its their right as Americans... however, that being said, part of their demonstration was to have children aged between six and ten hand out small molded plastic figures of fetus'. Of course on top of this were pamphlets with nice color photos of aborted fetus'. Seriously... what the fuck? At what point as a parent do you say to your self, "yeah, this is just what a six year old needs, to even think about this topic."

What really pisses me off about this is how manipulative the message is. Its acts as a visual metaphor for the kids that could have been. And what a bullshit pure emotional argument that is anyway.

So I went down to talk to the organizer of this event. By the time I got down there the children had gone and been replaced with high school aged kids. No idea why, I don't even care, that wasn't the issue I had anyway. So I found the leader, a man (kind of creepy looking to boot) and I asked in a calm voice a simple question: "Suppose tomorrow abortion becomes illegal, how would you stop it? How would the law be enforced? And what would be the punishments for women who try to get one, and the doctors who may still preform them?"

I think these questions are way more than reasonable. In fact I would call them required in order to advocate any legal action, hell any policy action in general. You would think that if they have the money in order to publish literature that they might have a full functioning plan. So again, that being said... here was his response: "Well we're not here to get into a heated debate, we just want to raise awareness that women have choices other than murder." To which I replied, "I'm not trying to start a heated debate or a debate at all, I just want to know what your plan is." Then he repeated the same basic crap to which I replied, "do these other choices that you advocate include contraception?" He hesitated and then said I guess if that's what you believe in.

Let me just say that I am pro-choice, that means that you (and everyone) can do whatever they think is best for either themselves or their unborn fetus. I am even open enough to know that there is a legitimate legal debate about what constitutes human life and murder and so forth. But really my biggest pet peev is when people who demonstrate for the pro-life cause is when they have no actual argument. A real argument requires not just a moral objection to the status quo, but a plan with which to address the harms of the status quo before you can just throw it out. I'd love to hear a plan, because I would love to evaluate it and see just how it might work. So far, no one can give me a logical one that would both work and at the same time not produce a police state, or a witch hunt.

Garr...

Dear Emily,

As promised, it is time for me to express how this anniversary makes me feel. The fact that I have come so far as to be able to say that I do feel is something that I was not sure I would be able to do a little over two years ago. I know that I am happy, and that was not possible for me for much of my life. This would not have been possible without you. This causes me to know not only that this is the best relationship of my life, but also that it is going to last. We both have had more than a fair share of lemons in the past; my Bimbo, your douchebag, but really those experiences is what shaped up to fit each other so well. I know that the move to Dekalb was not ideal, this city has not been nice to both of us for different reasons. I loathe the people and the lack of any sort of community or entertainment which doesn't require an ID. And you aren't a fan of the drunks outside of the window, being away from the family, and also not having much to do. But together we are the support structure that keeps us both sane (comparatively speaking of course). And besides, we are NOT going to be here forever.
I usually lose my focus when I try to do any detailed writing about what I think or feel. It's a new think to me dammit, I need to start doing flow charts! So the point is that I love you. I will always be here for you. I will do my best to improve upon some of my failings, and try not to repeat my mistakes (any more). I know that I got my tattoo long before I met you, but really it's meaning have only increased since our meeting.

Non Mihi, Non Tibi, Sed Nobis
Not for me, Not for you, But for us.

Love,
Chris

Hey cris, I figured I would sit down and write you out a full list of things you can down to reduce your electric bill. So as a preface for all of this keep in mind; how much you reduce your bill all comes down to how much you sacrifice and also make a habit of these things.

1: CFL's CFL is short for compact fluorescent light bulbs. These things are a little costly for a light bulb but they last for some times 5 or 7 years a bulb. On top of that they use less energy then a standard light bulb. 15 watts instead of 60. You can get bulbs that give off day light or standard white and everything in between. Every bulb saves you at least $30 a year.

2: Reduce your bulbs A good example of this is in the bathroom. Your vanity has 8 bulbs. Our vanity has like 4. You don't need to put a bulb in each one to completely light your bathroom. Our bathroom is well lit with one bulb instead of four. every socket doesn't need a bulb to lit a room.

3: Plug Drain Electric appliances use power when they are off. The big offenders of this are TVs, computers, printers, cell phone chargers and pretty much everything else. There's two simple solutions to this. First is to unplug things that are not in use. The toaster, the coffee maker, air conditioning (in the winter), cell chargers, and alarm clocks can all be plugged in for use and then unplugged. The other solution is to use power strips with on/off switches on them. use them to group things like the computer and printer and switch it off when you're not using it. Plug drain accounts for up to 25% of every house's electric bill.

4: Good Habits This is the easiest way to make a difference. Don't leave lights on, do keep things on you don't use a lot like maybe night lights or a stereo. Another big one is the computer; if you're going to leave the computer for more than a half hour you might as well turn it off. Hibernate and standby are almost as bad as leaving it on. It's better for your bill to just eat the extra few minutes it takes to boot up then to leave it on all day. You can also turn down the refrigerator, keep things cool enough, but you don't need two freezers.

Again, these are just suggestions, and I'm sure there are other things you could do. It all really comes down to how much of an impact you want to make on your bill.
